Akim Kotokuom is now a place we can call home! After a successful distribution of the girl’s kits, the boys could not understand why they were left behind.
They are right.Young men must be carried along in the empowerment campaigns.
Our male mentors, Michael Ige and Ekow Archer who went along to inspire the young boys did a great job! It was fun! The boys were a bit shy but ended up as an engaging brother to brother conversation. We concluded that we actually need to prfioritize boys and assist them through their developmental stages with the right information. We must have conversations about Personal Hygiene, menstruation, assertiveness and generally about life with them.
During initial visit with the girls for the Confidence Kit Project, they together with the boys present told us that the word “Confidence” to their understanding is the slang “Vhim!” So we said, “perfect”! We distributed 100 Confidence kits to the Boys!
“Confidence! Vhim!” is our slogan for the project and will remain.
The young people have now owned the project and that makes us happy! #ConfidenceKits for boys is here to stay!
